Bettina Lotsch

Bettina Lotsch is the Director of the Nanochemistry Department at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research (MPI-FKF) in Stuttgart, Germany, and holds honorary professorships at LMU Munich and the University of Stuttgart.

Bettina’s research explores next-generation material solutions for energy conversion, energy storage, and information technologies by combining the tools of molecular, solid-state and nanochemistry. Her current research focuses on the development of reticular materials for (photo)electrocatalysis, solid electrolytes for solid state batteries, and optoionic materials and concepts for solar batteries, “dark photocatalysis” and photomemristive devices.

Bettina is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (2014) and the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (2021). Her work has been recognized by a number of awards, including an ERC Starting Grant (2014), the EU-40 Materials Prize of the EMRS (2017), and the Leibniz Prize of the DFG (2025).
