Welcome to the 25th International Conference on Solid State Ionics that will take place from 5-10 July 2026 in Singapore. Solid State Ionics is the fundamental science behind many of the electrochemical technologies needed to achieve sustainable development, such as lithium and sodium batteries for transport and grid storage, fuel cells and electrolyzers to produce and utilize green hydrogen. Solid State Ionics essentially investigates how charge moves through a solid material. While we are familiar with charge transport by electrons in metallic conductors, many devices depend on the motion of the charged atoms themselves, rather than just their constituent electrons. Examples include lithium batteries, which depend on the movement of lithium ions during battery charge and discharge. Similarly, fuel cells depend on the movement of hydrogen and oxygen ions in the process of converting chemical energy into electrical energy and vice versa. Likewise, ion transport can also be utilized to advance information storage and processing.

The 25th International Conference on Solid State Ionics (SSI-25) in Singapore will under the motto “Solid Science for a Sustainable Future” provide an unparalleled opportunity to gather leading international scientists and engineers, top-level industrial executives, as well as students and young scientists, to discuss all aspects of the science, technology and applications of ion-conducting materials to achieve advances in clean and efficient energy conversion and storage, in environmental monitoring, memory and microelectronic technologies. The focus of the conference will be to promote basic research, materials discovery and materials processing for application in the electrochemical devices. This includes the development of advanced characterization and modelling techniques necessary to support and accelerate this process. Finally, we will cover the application in to a range of devices including novel applications in electronics.

On the opening day the scientific program of SSI-25 will be preceded by tutorials for research students and postdocs new to the field of solid state ionics. The conference will also be accompanied by an industry exhibition showcasing advanced fabrication, characterization and testing equipment for solid state ionics.
